CUJ Hosts National Seminar on NSE Research Initiative 2.0 to Bridge Academia-Market Gap

RANCHI: The Department of Economics and Development Studies (DEDS), Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), in collaboration with the university’s Research and Development (R&D) Cell, organized a one-day national seminar on the “National Stock Exchange (NSE) Research Initiative 2.0” at the Management Building Auditorium. The event brought together faculty members, research scholars, students, and financial experts to deliberate on capital markets, financial research, and literacy.

Inaugural Session Highlights Collaboration

The seminar commenced with a welcome address, the felicitation of dignitaries, and a ceremonial lamp-lighting ceremony. Key university leaders addressed the gathering during the inaugural session. Prof. Manoj Kumar (Dean, Academic Affairs and R&D Cell) and Dr. Sanhita Sucharita (Head, DEDS and Dean, School of Social Sciences) delivered opening remarks.

Prof. Sarang Medhekar (Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CUJ) delivered the Presidential Address, emphasizing how interaction between academia and financial markets paves the way for advanced research and data accessibility.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by the National Song and Anthem.

NSE Chief Economist Analyzes Jharkhand’s Market Participation

The first technical session, chaired by Prof. Tapan Kumar Basantia (Director, IQAC, CUJ), featured a keynote address by Dr. Tirthankar Patnaik, Chief Economist of the National Stock Exchange. Alongside his team, Dr. Patnaik presented data on stock market concentration, focusing specifically on investor participation patterns in Jharkhand.

Dr. Patnaik stressed the importance of understanding regional investment behaviors and expanding financial market access. He noted that academic seminars are vital for closing the gap between research and real-world markets. “Asking good questions is at the heart of good research,” he stated, urging students to align academic inquiry with real-world economic issues. He also highlighted how collaborative efforts can drive higher female participation in financial sectors. The keynote concluded with an interactive Q&A session featuring NSE delegates Ms. Prerna Singhvi, Mr. Prosenjit Pal, Mr. Sushant Hede, and Ms. Stuti Bakshi.

Discussions on Capital Trends and Literacy

The seminar featured further technical discussions to broaden the participants’ financial perspective. Prof. K. B. Singh delivered a technical talk focusing on the contemporary “Challenges and Trends of the Capital Market.”

Prof. Bhagwan Singh chaired the second technical session, which featured a lecture on “Financial Literacy” by CA Vikash R. Sahay.

The national seminar concluded as a highly successful platform, strengthening the linkages between academic institutions and India’s mainstream financial industries.
