BIT Mesra Marks a First for Jharkhand with DGCA-Approved Drone Pilot Certificate Course

Ranchi, 20 August 2026: Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra launches Jharkhand’s first DGCA-approved Drone Pilot Certificate (License) course at its University Polytechnic, B.I.T. Mesra, following approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India, to operate as a Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO).

At the BIT Mesra RPTO, learners move beyond classroom instruction to hands-on training with modern drones and dedicated training infrastructure. The programme follows a DGCA-approved curriculum and is supported by experienced professionals, allowing learners to build practical skills alongside their theoretical understanding.

Key Features of the RPTO

The RPTO brings together DGCA-approved training, expert trainers, practical learning and industry-focused exposure. The training follows DGCA guidelines and is supported by experienced professionals, while eligible candidates can pursue a DGCA-recognised Drone Pilot Certificate (License). The programme provides learners with a structured training environment to develop skills relevant to the growing drone sector.

Allied Courses in Drone Technology

Alongside the Drone Pilot Certificate course, BIT Mesra has introduced a set of short-term allied courses covering different areas of drone technology. These include Drone Forensics (4 days), Drone Programming & Coding (10 days), Drone GIS & Data Fusion (7 days), Drone Repair & Maintenance (8 days), Drone-based Mapping & Surveying (7 days), and Drone Building (7 days).

The courses take learners through different applications of drone technology—from examining drone-related evidence and developing drone programmes to working with GIS data, repairing and maintaining drones, carrying out mapping and surveying activities, and understanding the process of building drones.

Through the DGCA-approved RPTO, Drone Pilot Certificate course, and allied programmes, BIT Mesra is bringing together structured training and practical learning across different applications of drone technology at its University Polytechnic, BIT Mesra.
