Neglected for Months: Ranchi’s Ward 06 Residents Left Stranded in Mud and Waterlog as Officials Turn a Blind Eye
RANCHI: Thousands of residents in Ward No. 6, spanning from Jayaprakash Nagar to Deepatoli Chowk, find themselves trapped in a state of administrative apathy. Despite running from pillar to post and submitting written representations to every possible authority—from the Ward Councilor and the Mayor to the Municipal Commissioner, the Member of Parliament, and even the Honorable Chief Minister—the citizens have received nothing but empty reassurances.
The primary artery connecting Bariatu Road and National Highway 33 (NH-33) via Old HB Road has completely disintegrated into a dangerous maze of potholes and craters. What was once a crucial connector for a densely populated area has now turned into a high-risk zone for motorists and pedestrians alike. The crisis multiplies manifold during the monsoon season, when persistent waterlogging effectively cuts off residents from the outside world, turning commutes into a hazardous gamble.
Local residents and social activists, including Shri Ramchandra Bhagat, Shri Binod Tiwari, and Shri Anand Khalkho, have expressed deep distress over the foundational collapse of civic infrastructure in the area. Shockingly, no formal drainage system has ever been constructed in the neighborhood since its inception. As the population grows, household wastewater and rainwater continue to accumulate on the streets, turning the local roads into stagnant pools. Even when the government undertakes occasional patch-up repairs, the lack of drainage ensures the newly laid asphalt washes away within weeks.
Compounding the misery of the residents is a blatant law and order failure on the very same roads. Locals report that sand mafias and anti-social elements have actively encroached upon government land, illegally stockpiling heavy construction materials directly on public pathways. This irregular storage creates suffocating dust clouds that degrade air quality, ruins local sanitation, and narrows the already broken roads. Furthermore, the unchecked movement of heavy vehicles through these residential lanes poses a constant threat of accidents.
Despite explicit complaints regarding these illegal commercial activities and structural failures, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation has failed to take any concrete enforcement action. Left with no other choice, the residents have issued a collective, urgent appeal to the civic body to clear the encroachments, construct a proper drainage network, and immediately initiate the comprehensive repair and macadamization of the main road from the Pran Gari Complex to Deepatoli Chowk. The citizens are demanding immediate intervention to protect public property, restore basic safety, and finally grant them relief from months of severe neglect.
