IHM Ranchi Celebrates Shri Krishna Janmashtami with 56 Bhog and Matki Phod Competition

RANCHI: The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Ranchi celebrated Shri Krishna Janmashtami with devotion and festive fervour, beautifulRanchi,nding faith, Indian culture, and the country’s rich culinary traditions. As part of the celebration, 56 varieties of Bhog, prepared by the students and expert chefs of the Institute, were ceremoniously offered to Lord Krishna. A spirited Matki Phod competition was also organised on the occasion.

Students dressed as Lord Krishna and Radha performed the traditional puja and offered the specially prepared Chhappan Bhog to Lord Krishna.

The elaborate spread of 56 Bhog included Coconut Laddoo, Makhana Coconut Barfi, Gulab Jamun, Chhena Poda, Mewa Pak, Kala Jamun, Churma, Lengcha, Mishti Doi, Rabri, Rice Kheer, Sabudana Kheer, Gajar Halwa, Besan Laddoo, Besan Barfi, Laung Latika, Gujiya, Chandrakala, Chiroti, Shakarpara, Panchamrit Rasmalai, Chocolate Rasgulla, Lemon Curd, Paan Toffee, Caramelised Almonds, Cranberry Compote, Malai Mishri, Chocolate-Coated Shrikhand, Chocolate Coconut Laddoo, Kunafa, Sewai, Kalakand, Rasgulla, Parwal Mithai, Kachha Gola, Sandesh, Kesar Sandesh, Makhana Kheer, Suji Halwa, Khaja, Makhan Mishri, Double Meetha, Shahi Tukda, Rasmalai, Shrikhand, Boondi Laddoo, Badam Roll, Kaju Katli, Fruit Custard, Bread Custard, Moong Dal Halwa, Khurma, Phirni, Jalebi, Madua Laddoo and Mysore Pak.

The celebration showcased not only the diversity of Indian sweets and traditional delicacies but also the culinary skills and creativity of IHM Ranchi students. By incorporating renowned delicacies from different regions of India into the Chhappan Bhog, the Institute highlighted the richness and diversity of the country’s culinary heritage. The dishes were prepared by the students under the guidance of the Principal and expert chefs of the Institute.

Team Radha Steals the Show in Matki Phod

The devotional celebrations were followed by an energetic Matki Phod competition, in which the girls stole the show by outperforming the boys.

A total of four teams participated in the competition, including one all-girls team. Team Radha created the highlight of the celebration by successfully breaking the Matki in just three minutes, while the boys’ teams took more than an hour to accomplish the task. The performance of Team Radha drew enthusiastic applause and added excitement to the festive celebrations.

Extending his greetings on Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Principal of IHM Ranchi, Dr. Bhupesh Kumar, said, “Janmashtami is not merely a celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna; it is also a festival that reflects the richness of our culture, traditions, devotion and collective participation. Through the tradition of Chhappan Bhog, our endeavour is to connect students with the diversity of Indian culture and culinary heritage.”

He further appreciated the students and expert chefs for preparing the dishes with devotion, dedication and creativity.

Dr. Kumar added, “Our objective is to ensure that alongside professional education, students remain deeply connected with their cultural roots and take pride in India’s glorious culinary traditions. Such activities provide them an opportunity to understand, experience and preserve our traditional food heritage while applying their professional culinary skills.”

He wished that the blessings of Lord Krishna bring love, harmony and positivity to society.

Celebrated in an atmosphere filled with devotion, enthusiasm and cultural pride, the Shri Krishna Janmashtami programme added another memorable chapter to the academic and cultural activities of IHM Ranchi.
