RANCHI: The Jharkhand Forest Department will launch a massive five-day state-wide campaign to celebrate World Environment Day 2026, focusing heavily on climate action and local conservation efforts. The blueprint for the mega-event was finalized on Monday during a state-level review meeting held via video conferencing under the chairmanship of Mr. S. R. Natesh, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Nodal Officer for World Environment Day 2026.
The virtual session was attended by the Conservator of Forests (Administration) and all Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) from across the state to coordinate the upcoming itinerary.
The celebrations will run from June 1 to June 5, 2026, under this year’s central theme, “Climate Change and Environmental Issues.” The department has lined up a diverse daily itinerary to engage the public and forest officials, starting on June 1 with cleanliness drives, safety initiatives, and awareness campaigns at tourist spots in and around Ranchi.
This will be followed by dedicated programmes focusing on local biodiversity conservation on June 2, and public physical activities including a city-wide Walkathon and Cyclothon on June 3. On June 4, mass Yoga sessions will be organized across all forest divisions in the state, leading up to the grand finale on June 5.
To ensure smooth execution, Mr. Natesh directed all DFOs to center their district activities around the core theme. The department will use Google Sheets to digitally track and upload venue-wise details and daily event updates across every district.
In a move to boost department morale, outstanding field employees will be recognized. DFOs have been instructed to submit nominations of personnel who have shown exemplary dedication to environmental protection, and the shortlisted employees will receive state-level honors during the closing ceremony.
The main function on June 5 will be held at the Palash Auditorium, Forest Department Headquarters, Van Bhavan, Ranchi. The event will be chaired by Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF, with high-level participation from all Principal, Additional, and Regional Chief Conservators of Forests.
