Expert IP Attorney Ms. Nishi Shabana Kauser Appointed as DPIIT–IPR Chair Professor at NUSRL Ranchi

RANCHI:The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, has officially appointed Ms. Nishi Shabana Kauser as the new DPIIT–IPR Chair Professor under the central government’s SPRIHA Scheme. Ms. Kauser brings over 15 years of extensive legal experience to the university. She is a practicing Advocate, a registered Patent Agent, and the Co-Founder and Partner at New Delhi-based firm Lume Legal. Her legal practice spans across multiple domains, including trademark prosecution, IP litigation, patent prosecution, design infringement, and IP policy strategy.

Academically, Ms. Kauser holds an LL.M. in IPR and Technology Laws from O.P. Jindal Global University and an M.Sc. in Toxicology from Hamdard University. Her strong scientific background uniquely positions her to handle complex legal landscapes at the intersection of patents, artificial intelligence (AI), software inventions, and emerging technologies. Her professional excellence has been routinely recognized by top tier peer-review platforms, including Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal. She is also an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA).

In her new role at NUSRL, Ms. Kauser is set to spearhead critical research, training, policy engagement, and outreach initiatives. Her primary focus will include strengthening IP literacy, supporting regional innovation and entrepreneurship, developing university IP systems, and documenting Geographical Indications (GI), traditional knowledge, and artisan products. Furthermore, she will lead efforts in promoting responsible tech development and contributing to national policy discourse on digital markets, AI, and IP commercialisation. NUSRL expressed strong optimism about her appointment, noting that her deep expertise will significantly advance the university’s research, institutional growth, and regional development in the field of intellectual property rights.
