Ranchi Zoologist Dr. Anand Thakur Empowers BHU Workshop with AI-Driven Pedagogical Innovation

VARANASI: Dr. Anand Kumar Thakur, a versatile academic and Assistant Professor from the University Department of Zoology at Ranchi University, took center stage at the Inter University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Demonstrating his multifaceted expertise bridging traditional life sciences with cutting-edge technology, Dr. Thakur delivered two pivotal lectures at a high-profile national workshop.

The workshop, titled “Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Life Sciences Teaching and Learning,” brought together about 40 professors from various universities across India. The event was seamlessly coordinated by Dr. Kushagri Singh, a faculty member at IUCTE, BHU.

Redefining the Syllabus Through the Lens of NEP 2020

In his first session, “Curriculum Design using AI in Life Sciences,” Dr. Thakur showcased his deep research into modernizing higher education in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He challenged traditional teaching frameworks by identifying six critical bottlenecks that modern student-centric syllabi must overcome:

1. Content Overload – Reducing memory-based learning.
2. Technological Blends – Integrating rapid advancements in biotechnology, genomics, and bioinformatics.
3. Interdisciplinary Silos – Breaking barriers between distinct scientific fields.
4. Employability Gaps – Aligning university degrees with job market demands.
5. Research Deficits – Fostering inquiry-based mindsets early in higher education.
6. Global Relevance – Linking curriculum directly to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and industry standards.

Dr. Thakur demonstrated how artificial intelligence can analyze educational gaps, automate resource mapping, and customize learning pathways to address these six systemic hurdles simultaneously.

Practical Classrooms: AI-Enabled Lesson Planning

Shifting from high-level policy to classroom execution, Dr. Thakur’s second lecture, “AI-enabled Lesson Planning and Case Studies,” cemented his reputation as an adaptable, tech-forward educator. He provided the participating professors with actionable case studies, showing how AI tools can generate dynamic lesson plans, simulate laboratory experiments, and build interactive assessments.
Addressing systemic anxieties, Dr. Thakur actively cleared participants’ doubts regarding limited university resources, manpower shortages, and administrative anxieties over government interference. He emphasized that continuous training for both educators and students is the definitive antidote to these structural challenges, empowering departments to do more with less.

A Multitalented Force in Higher Education
Dr. Thakur’s contribution highlights a rare academic versatility. While rooted firmly in the foundational domain of Zoology at Ranchi University, his mastery extends deep into computational tools, curriculum architecture, and educational technology. By cross-pollinating biological sciences with artificial intelligence, Dr. Thakur is emerging as a vital voice in India’s modern educational reform, proving that tomorrow’s scientists must be trained by multi-disciplinary pioneers.
