65th Foundation Day Celebration of the College of Veterinary Science

Ranchi: Birsa Agricultural University Vice Chancellor Dr. S. C. Dubey said that discipline, decency, respect for elders, and punctuality are essential for moving ahead in any field of life. Indian culture and values teach us this from childhood. It is the responsibility of teachers to strengthen these qualities in students.

Dr Dubey was addressing the 65th Foundation Day of the College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry of BAU on Saturday. He said that the foundation day of any college is an important occasion to remember the institution’s history and the contributions of its founders, as well as to review the institution’s achievements, challenges, and shortcomings. It reminds us of the values, mission, and vision from which the institution’s journey began.

Therefore, all members of the college family—students, teachers, and other staff—must attend the foundation day celebration with 100% participation so that they may collectively pledge for the institution’s progress, prosperity, and development, and also assess where shortcomings remain.

The Vice Chancellor said that whether it is postgraduate research or externally funded projects, the goal should always be to ease the difficulties of livestock farmers and improve their standard of living. Emphasizing the modernization of all laboratories, he said that there is no shortage of funds for this; the concerned units must bring concrete proposals. He also urged the college’s students and teachers to convert present challenges into opportunities and take the institution to new heights.

The special guest of the event, former Head of the Department of Medicine Dr DK Thakur, said that there are immense career opportunities for those studying veterinary science, providing money, satisfaction, and respect. They have vast options in teaching and research in universities, research institutes, pharma industries, and international organizations; veterinary and extension services in government departments; telemedicine; the dairy sector; pet nutrition and wellness; pet product development; wildlife medicine; animal welfare; biodiversity conservation, and many other areas.

Dean of the Veterinary Faculty Dr MK Gupta, while delivering the welcome address, highlighted the achievements of the college and said that its alumni are spread across the world as teachers, researchers, administrators, policymakers, and entrepreneurs.

Assistant Registrar Dr Suresh Mehta proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was conducted by Dr Nandini Kumari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding. On this occasion, retired professors Dr CM Prasad, Dr S Haque, Virbac Pharma Company Regional Manager Dr Kawish Ahsan, and student Shweta Kandulna, who secured first place in the elocution competition, also shared their views. Winners of various competitions organized on the Foundation Day were awarded.
