Sarvottama Kumari wins DSPMU Sanskrit Sholka Contest

Ranchi: On the second day of the Sanskrit Week jointly organized by the Department of Sanskrit at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, Ranchi, Sanskrit Bharati, Ranchi, and the Jharkhand Sanskrit Academy, a Shloka Recitation Competition was held on Saturday.

This competition is a significant effort to enhance the interest and knowledge of youth in Indian culture and traditions. Students from Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, Ranchi University, Marwari College, Ranchi, and Ranchi Women’s College participated in the event.

The program began with Dr. Dhananjay Vasudeo Dwivedi, Head of the Sanskrit Department at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, highlighting the importance of shlokas. He mentioned that the shlokas embedded in Sanskrit literature are carriers of the Indian knowledge tradition.

Dr. Rahul Kumar, a professor from Marwari College, encouraged the students on this occasion. During the competition, participants selected and recited shlokas from the Gita, Kiratarjuniya, Shishupalavadha, Kadambari, and Raghuvamsa. The students recited the shlokas with purity, emotion, and depth, mesmerizing the audience.

The panel of judges included Dr. Dhananjay Vasudeo Dwivedi, Dr. Shrimitra, Soni Kumari, and Prithviraj Singh. The judges evaluated the participants based on the recitation, sound, purity, and interpretation of the meaning of the shlokas.

Dr. Jagdamba Prasad, a departmental teacher, coordinated the competition.

The winners of the Shloka Recitation Competition were:
– First Prize: Sarvottama Kumari
– Second Prize: Kanak Singh and Pratima Chauhan
– Third Prize: Anamika Kumari and Shivam Narayan
– Consolation Prize: Khushi Kumari and Sneha Kumari.
