82-Year-Old Retired Govt Servant Urges MCD to Remove Encroachment in Sant Nagar, Says Construction Debris Blocking Lane
New Delhi: An 82-year-old senior citizen from Sant Nagar, Rani Bagh has written to the Deputy Commissioner, Rohini Zone, North Municipal Corporation, seeking immediate action against illegal encroachment and construction debris blocking the lane beside Sant Nagar Park.
The complainant, Radheshyam Sharma (82), a retired government employee who served the Government of India for 40 years, resides at 2978-B, Main Road, Sant Nagar, Delhi-110034. In his letter, he said a 3.5 feet wide encroachment in the middle of the road and debris dumped by trucks engaged in demolition and construction work near his house has completely blocked passage.
Sharma said his wife has been bedridden for seven years, his both knees have been replaced, and his heart is functioning at only 40 percent. He was recently admitted to Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh. Despite his condition, he travels daily to Rajapur village for 4-5 hours to his small office.
Narrating his ordeal, he said when he left home in his car, the lane was completely blocked by debris from a truck. He commutes by auto and is unable to walk long distances. When he requested workers to move the truck, they showed no sympathy. He was forced to walk to the main road, which left him breathless. The same situation persisted on his return.
“At the age of 82, I am suffering physically and mentally due to this kind of insensitivity. Demolition and debris removal should be done in such a way that passage of residents is not blocked, especially for elderly and sick persons. At this age, we should be given an opportunity to live peacefully and freely,” he wrote.
Sharma has requested the Deputy Commissioner to take strict action and ensure the lane remains clear for residents. He has also sent copies of the complaint to the Chief Minister’s Office, Delhi and the Hon’ble Governor for information.
