RANCHI: In a vibrant push for physical health and mental wellness, Ranchi District Superintendent of Education (DSE) Badal Raj performed yoga alongside hundreds of local school children to mark a dedicated wellness drive.
The event, organized by the local education department, aimed to weave healthy lifestyles into early education. It also underscored the growing emphasis on managing student stress through ancestral and holistic wellness practices.
Setting the Example for Youth
DSE Badal Raj rolled out his mat early in the morning, joining students and teachers in performing a sequence of traditional asanas, pranayama, and meditation techniques. The district’s top education official actively demonstrated various postures, encouraging the young participants to maintain steady breathing and focus. The atmosphere was filled with energy as children followed along with enthusiasm, mirroring the stretches and balancing poses.
Addressing Stress and Academic Pressures
Speaking after the session, Badal Raj emphasized that yoga is more than just physical exercise; it serves as an essential tool for student development. He said it helps students sharpens their focus, calm anxious thoughts, and improve memory retention. It also provides immediate relief from examination stress and daily academic pressures besides instilling self-discipline and connects the younger generation to India’s rich cultural heritage.
Expanding Wellness Initiatives in Schools
The event is part of a broader, ongoing effort by the Ranchi education department to transform government schools. Badal Raj reiterated his commitment to implementing qualitative improvements across district institutes. This includes integrating structural fitness regimes, mental health dialogues, and creative extra-curricular programs directly into the standard academic calendar.
School administrators noted that such high-profile participation heavily motivates students. They plan to continue incorporating shorter, morning yoga assemblies to decrease absenteeism and foster an active learning environment.
