RANCHI – In a significant step toward addressing mental health challenges in underserved communities, Ekjut, in collaboration with prestigious international and national institutions, hosted a dissemination event today at Hotel Chanakya BNR to share key findings from the MADAD study.
The initiative, formally known as Mobilising Adolescents for Anxiety and Depression Disorders, focused on creating robust mental health support systems within the rural settings of West Singhbhum, Jharkhand. The study was a collaborative effort involving University College London, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, King’s College London, and Sangath, Goa.
Community-Led Solutions
The heart of the MADAD intervention lies in its community-grounded approach. Adolescent boys and girls played a pivotal role in the implementation, proving that youth engagement is essential for the success of mental health programs. The project also highlighted the importance of community meetings in improving local health indicators and fostering an environment where mental health can be discussed openly.
Key Highlights of the Event
The gathering brought together experts, practitioners, and community members to reflect on the journey. Key highlights included:
Key Learnings: Discussion on the valuable lessons learned from young people, caregivers, and frontline workers.
Film Screening: The event featured the premiere of “CARING CIRCLE,” a documentary showcasing the real-world impact of the intervention and the lived experiences of those involved.
Pathways for Scaling: A critical reflection on how these community-led models can be strengthened and scaled to reach other underserved regions.
“This gathering is where evidence meets practice,” stated the organizers. “By sharing these findings, we hope to foster meaningful dialogue that informs the future of mental health support in India.”
The event concluded with a call to action for stakeholders to continue exploring innovative, community-based pathways to ensure mental health services are accessible to all, regardless of their geographic location.
