BIT Institution Innovation Council celebrates National Space Day

Celebration of National Space Day -2025

Ranchi: The Institution Innovation Council, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, celebrated the 2nd National Space Day with great enthusiasm and participation from students and faculty members. The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with students from renowned schools including DAV Gandhi Nagar, DAV Hehal, Ranchi Delhi Public School Bokaro, and Jawhar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Mesra taking part in multiple competitions.
The chief guest of the program was Shri T. Sivamurugan, Scientist-G, Project Director, Test Vehicle Program, VSSC, ISRO.

The guests were welcomed at 11:00 AM, and the event started with the institute prayer and the welcome address by Dr. Priyank Kumar, Head, Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry, followed by Prof. Sudip Das, Registrar of BIT Mesra.Prof. Sudip Das highlighted the success of Chandrayaan-3 and India’s upcoming Gaganyaan 2027 mission.
Prof. Indranil Manna, Vice-Chancellor, said that India has scripted history with the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon, marking a proud moment for the nation and a defining milestone in global space exploration.

The mission was designed with robust systems, meticulous planning, and improved landing strategies to overcome past challenges. The Chief Guest, Shri T. Sivamurugan, Scientist-G, Project Director, Test Vehicle Program, VSSC, ISRO, was invited online and shared his valuable insights on India’s remarkable journey in space exploration and motivated young minds to contribute to the nation’s space endeavours. Shri T. Sivamurugan highlighted ISRO’s technological advancements, rockets, ongoing projects, and the growing role of private participation in space exploration.

After the inauguration, Dr. Dilip Kumar Singh, co-convenor of IIC-BIT Mesra has given a vote of thanks.
The event featured exciting competitions and exhibitions aimed at nurturing creativity and scientific curiosity among students:

Event Highlight
* Model Exhibition & Competition* – The total 15 models have been displayed, and School students showcased innovative models, highlighting concepts related to space, technology, and sustainability. The exhibition became a platform for young innovators to present their ideas and problem-solving skills.

Painting Competition – Students from different schools and BIT Mesra faculty staff ward has participated in a painting competition, creatively expressing themes around space science, rockets, satellites, and India’s space missions, which was organised by ISRO. The vibrant artworks reflected the imagination and talent of the participants.

Coordination and Organization

The event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Anand Prasad Sinha and Dr. Dilip Kumar Singh and overall student volunteers Nihal, Aayush, and other members whose efforts ensured smooth execution and enthusiastic participation from all. The event was anchored by student coordinator Shivangi Dubey.

Conclusion
The *National Space Day celebration at BIT Mesra* turned out to be an inspiring event that kindled scientific temperament, innovation, and creativity among school children and university students alike. With insightful talks, engaging competitions, and the presence of eminent personalities from academia and ISRO, the program was a resounding success.
