Ranchi: Organised under the banner of the Jharkhand University Teachers Association (JUTAN), faculty members of Ranchi Women’s College held a protest meeting on Tuesday demanding timely implementation of long-pending academic promotions.
In a resolution passed during the meeting, the association said the continued inaction by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the state government was adversely affecting morale and the quality of higher education. It was resolved that the protest would continue across university campuses until concrete steps are taken.
JUTAN President Jagdish Lohra stated that administrative apathy towards faculty career progression was undermining academic institutions.
Dr. Kanjiv Lochan, convener, announced that members would suspend cooperation with JPSC-related academic functions as a mark of dissent.
Dr. Vinay Bharat, Publication Secretary, noted that the issue had moved beyond annual increments, describing it as a matter of academic dignity and professional recognition.
The association has decided to initiate a state-level programme titled ‘Halla Bol’, to be held in Ranchi from July 15 to 21, if no positive development is communicated by July 15.
A similar meeting is scheduled at S.S. Memorial College on Wednesday as part of the ongoing mobilisation.
Faculty members present at the meeting included Dr. Seema Prasad, Dr. Rita Kumari, Dr. Neelu Singh, Dr. Kiran, Dr. Smita Linda, Dr. Matiur Rahman, Dr. Ganesh Chandra Baske, Dr. Chaitali, Dr. Urvashi, Dr. Shashi, Dr. Savita, Dr. Shobhana, Dr. Rozalina, Dr. Bharti, Dr. Poonam, Dr. Renu, Dr. Ranjit, Dr. Meera Kumari, Dr. Surabhi, Dr. Reena Bhadani, Dr. Aarti Modak, Dr. Swarnim, Dr. Anju and others.
