Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has expressed disagreement with the central government’s directive to retire DGP Anurag Gupta on 30 April 2025. The state government has sent a reply to the centre regarding this. In the reply sent on the night of 30 April, the state government has termed the rules made for the appointment of DGP as correct.
According to the information received, the state government has sent a reply after taking legal advice on the issue of guidelines given by the Centre in the appointment case of DGP Anurag Gupta. Every point raised by the central government has been answered in the letter.
In the letter sent to the centre, it has been said that the state government has made the appointment rules of the DGP using the powers vested in the Police Act. The rule made by the government is in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
It has also been said in the letter that a case is also pending in the Supreme Court on the issue of the appointment of DGP. The court is yet to decide whether Anurag Gupta’s appointment is as per the rules or not. Therefore, it is not right to remove him from the post even before the court’s decision on this issue.
