Ranchi: A clinical psychologists of Central Institute of Pyschiatry (CIP), Ashutosh Upadhyay (25), died on Saturday while undergoing swimming training at Malabar Swimming Pool. His family members taken his body on Sunday for last rite at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi on Monday.
CIP source informed this saying reason behind the death could not be ascertained scientifically but it is suspected that cardiac arrest or brain hemorrhage might have have caused the death.
“He was taking swimming training for the last one month. On Saturday he was swimming since 7:15am. When he jumped at 8.15am, his body stopped moving. But this went unnoticed by the trainers. After 8-10 minutes, seeing that there was no movement, he was taken out. An attempt was made to give CPR. He was taken to Medica immediately thereafter. The doctors there declared death after examination. Heart attack or brain hemorrhage is suspected as reason behind his death,” an insider said.
“He was native of Gahmar in Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. He joined the institute in the year 2022 December. His father Srinivas Upadhyay is a retired army personnel. Though no FIR was registered in this connection as family members did not suspect any foul play after examination of CCTV footage, the incident has raised doubt over the supervision of trainee at swimming pool,” the insider added.
