Ranchi, July 22: A probe was initiated by Central University of Jharkhand after fire broke out in a hostel room causing charring of books and belongings of a student.
“The incident took place in the afternoon. The room where broke out was allotted to a student, against him university administration had taken disciplinary action and the student was struggling hard to resist the action. The student suspected sabotage and has written to the university vice chancellor for proper action in the matter,” a hostel insider said.

A student expressed his serious concern over the issue.
“The serious question is that when the university administration has the authority to protect, supervise and control the entire campus, and the hostels come completely under the DSW (Dean – Students Welfare), then how did this incident happen? It is worth mentioning that the DSW is appointed by the Vice Chancellor himself and no entry or activity is possible in the campus without the knowledge of the administration,” the student said.
Another student echoed the same and expressed his security concern.
“Is the university campus, especially the hostels, safe for students? When a student’s room can be deliberately set on fire, who will be responsible? Is the university administration creating such an atmosphere of fear to suppress the voice of the students? The student community demands a high-level inquiry into this incident. Will criminal acts like arson be resorted to now to suppress the voice of students,” the student said.
The matter was also reported to Kanke police station.
