DLSA organises workshop on MACT

Ranchi: The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) organised on Monday organised a daylong district level workshop on Motor Accident Claims Tribunal(MACT) in the civil court premises on Monday.
The workshop discussed the provision and simplification of the process of providing timely and proper compensation to the victim family in a motor accident.

MACT presiding officer Manish Kumar, referring to the changes made in the Jharkhand Motor Accident Laws in the year 2019 and 2022, said that the information of the road accident has to be submitted to the tribunal by the concerned police station within 48 hours.

He also said that Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) and other government institutions should spread awareness among people that accidents can happen anywhere and at any time, so bike riders should wear helmets and car drivers should wear seat belts.

Also, he said, if an accident occurs anywhere, people nearby should inform the police and help in taking the injured person to the nearest hospital. Police do not make a person who takes an injured person to the hospital a witness. Apart from this, he told the representative of the police administration to pay special attention to the IAR and DAR reports and also highlighted the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.

DTO Akhilesh Kumar Singh praised the workshop and directed all police station in-charges to submit the documents related to the accident to the concerned place on time after the accident. He said that earlier the reports used to come at a slow pace from the police station, but now on the initiative of DLSA, the reports have started coming on time.

Along with this, he also told that if the documents are not submitted at the concerned place on time, then the responsibility for this lies only with the IO. He said that wearing a high quality helmet reduces the chances of death in an accident. There is a need to create awareness in this subject and urged to organize awareness camps by establishing coordination with DALSA in this regard.

In the workshop, Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr Prabhat Kumar said that road accidents happen daily in the district, and most of the people who have lost their lives were bread earners of their families and most of them met with accidents due to driving bikes or vehicles at high speed. He further said that there is a need to spread awareness among the people. Everyday we get news that accidents happen due to drunk driving and they die due to multi-organ failure. Along with this, he said that Sadar Hospital is always ready to provide timely medical examination to the victims.

Panel Advocate of DLSA Vinod Kumar Singh said that accident victims and their families should get accident compensation on time. Therefore, the postmortem report and charge sheet should be submitted on time. He also said that all the documents of the motor vehicle involved in the accident should be properly checked so that there is no problem in getting compensation to the victims. He also said that as soon as the FIR is filed in the accident, within 48 hours a copy should be sent to the Hon’ble Court, MACT and a copy to DLSA, Ranchi.

At the end of the workshop, Principal Magistrate Juvenile Justice Board, Amit Kumar proposed thank to all the guests.
