National conference on Mission Based Geological Advancements in Jharkhand

 

Ranchi: The Geological Survey of India, State Unit- Jharkhand, under Ministry of Mines organized a one-day, National Workshop on “Mission Based Geological Advancements in Jharkhand with Emphasis on Mineral Investigation Programs and NGDR Stakeholder Utility Interface” on 29th of July 2024 at MAYURI auditorium, CMPDI, Kanke Ranchi to showcase their valued work and findings in the state of Jharkhand.


Workshop gave space to other organizations like CMPDI, CGWB, SAIL, AMD, NTPC and Academics who have done significant work in the field of geology in the state. The Geological Survey of India has recently launched the NGDR portal to provide a common interface for all the geological exploration work carried out by GSI and different other stakeholders in India.


The guest of honour Manoj Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, CMPDI emphasized on the importance of the workshop and how it would be beneficial to the stakeholders.

Dr Joyesh Bagchi, also reverberated on the sentiments of the Central Headquarters and how important the State of Jharkhand was in terms of its contribution to the mineral potential of the state and contribution to the National Economy. He added that such brainstorming would only invite more ideas.

Mrs Varsha Aglawe, Convener, Additional Director General and HOD of Eastern region, GSI, Kolkata delivered the welcome address by congratulating the organising team and their collaborative efforts in bringing National Workshop in place.


Shri Akhouri Bishwapriya, Co-Convener and DyDG, State Unit: Jharkhand expressed the need of staging a workshop at National Level for the State of Jharkhand. It was first such initiative and received an overwhelming response from participants. On the occasion a bilingual abstract volume was also released and a coffee table book depicting the journey of State Unit Jharkhand.

Shri Bishwapriya also displayed a video documentary on Dudhi Nala Section bearing glacial imprints of carboniferous times which was much appreciated.

Nine back-to-back keynote presentations covered all aspects of interest in geology across Missions and was a matter of awareness for young participants. The aspects of the National Geoscience Data Repository, an initiative of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India was also discussed, and interest of the stakeholders addressed in detail.

Altogether 48 presentations were held during the day in which best presentations were judged and the participants awarded for their efforts by Smt Varsha Ashok Aglawe, ADG, GSI and Dr Joyesh Bagchi, ADG, GSI.
All participants received participation certificates for their efforts.

Dr Debashree Pratap Singh was the Organizing Secretary of the Event and Shri Gladson Bage and Shri Sachin Pachpor were the Joint Organizing Secretary.

Smt Sulochana Sahoo, Director headed the prints and media interaction for the workshop.

Superintendent surveyor of Survey of India Alok Kumar who participated in the workshop confirmed the fact saying this is for the first time such workshop was organised on geological advancement of Jharkhand.
“I got the opportunity to give a presentation on Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) infrastructure, which helps determine fast and accurate positioning of location using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS),” Kumar said.

 

Former GSI director U.P. Singh, who gave presentation on “Natural Flake Graphite- Geology and Application with special reference to graphene” said: “The programme gave opportunity to share knowledge to geo scientists to pave the path of geo scientific research and development to benefit Jharkhand as well as the country.”
