Palamau: In a major push against drug abuse, the Palamu District Cycling Association, with active support from the Palamu District Administration, successfully organized Cyclethon 2026 in Medininagar on Saturday. Driven by the powerful theme “Say No to Drugs – Yes to Life,” the event served as a massive public awareness campaign and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing various schools across the district. Through the medium of sports and cycling, organizers aimed to inspire the younger generation to embrace a healthy, disciplined, and entirely drug-free lifestyle.
The event was graced by Palamu Deputy Commissioner Dilip Singh Shekhawat, IAS, and Palamu Superintendent of Police Kapil Chaudhary, IPS. Both senior officials strongly encouraged the participating students to cultivate a keen interest in sports, emphasizing that regular physical activity maintains both physical and mental well-being. They noted that a healthy lifestyle directly enables students to excel in academics, tackle challenging competitive examinations, and prepare themselves for future leadership roles in society.
Echoing this sentiment, the President of the Palamu District Cycling Association, Sanjay Ranjan Singh, IPS, appealed to the youth to steer clear of harmful substances and instead develop a positive “addiction” to education, sports, and constructive social contributions.During the event, General Secretary Rathin Bhadra welcomed the distinguished guests and formally requested the Deputy Commissioner to facilitate the development of a dedicated sports ground for the district’s growing sporting community. Bhadra also made an appeal for the sponsorship of a bicycle to support emerging local cycling talent.
A special highlight of the day was the felicitation of Palamu’s star cyclist, Riju Boral. He was honored by the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police for his outstanding achievements, receiving a commemorative memento and a tracksuit sponsored by the Palamu Sportsmen Association and the Massom Art Group.The ceremony also featured mutual exchanges of honor among the organizers and administration.
Superintendent of Police Kapil Chaudhary was presented a memento by Vice President Manohar Kumar and General Secretary Rathin Bhadra, while Deputy Commissioner Dilip Singh Shekhawat was honored by Sanjay Ranjan Singh. Furthermore, key association office bearers, including Joint Secretary Sanat Chatterjee, Executive Member Raju Mukherjee, and Organizing Committee Treasurer Saheb Singh Namdhari, were felicitated for their unwavering dedication to promoting local sports. Special recognition was also given to Ragini Singh, the Founder of Bright Land School, who was honored by the top district officials for extending wholehearted support and allowing the mega event to flag off from her school premises.
