GUARDIANS OF SIGHT: Indian Army Launches ‘Drishti 2026’ to Fight Blindness in Jharkhand
RANCHI: In a major healthcare outreach initiative to combat blindness, the Indian Army launched ‘Drishti 2026,’ a premier Mega Eye Care Camp at Military Hospital Namkum. The initiative brought advanced eye treatment and specialist care to the people of Jharkhand.
The four-day camp runs from June 16 to 19 under the aegis of Eastern Command. Surgeon Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), inaugurated the event. Elite medical teams from Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, are offering comprehensive treatments to ex-servicemen, dependents, and local civilians.
Services include advanced cataract surgeries, glaucoma management, and specialized retinal injections.The initiative bridges a major healthcare gap for civilians in remote tribal belts who are traditionally cut off from specialized care. Recognizing the geographical barriers these families face, local Army units actively reached out to distant villages to spread awareness and facilitate patient transit. This ensures advanced care reaches those who need it most.
Speaking at the inauguration, Surgeon Vice Admiral Aarti Sarin praised the synchronized efforts of Eastern Command, Military Hospital Namkum, and the specialized medical team. She underscored the role of such grassroots initiatives in expanding healthcare access and fundamentally transforming the quality of life for families.With an overwhelming turnout on its opening day, ‘Drishti 2026’ beautifully highlights the Indian Army’s enduring commitment to community welfare.
