Justice for “Sita”: Amba Prasad Leads Massive Protest Against Hazaribagh Police Failure

HAZARIBAGH: In a powerful display of grief and defiance, former MLA and AICC National Secretary Amba Prasad on Monday led a massive protest, accusing the district administration of a “complete collapse” in the investigation of a heinous crime that has shaken Jharkhand.

Protestors wearing black armbands marched through Hazaribagh District Chowk, culminating in a candlelight vigil and the symbolic burning of effigies of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP).
The protest centers on the brutal rape and murder of an innocent young woman—whom Prasad has named “Sita” to protect her identity while honoring her memory—during a ‘Mangala’ procession in Bishnugarh on March 24, 2026. Despite days passing since the tragedy (Case No. 42/2026), no arrests have been made.

“This is more harrowing and repulsive than the Nirbhaya case,” Prasad stated during the demonstration. “The failure of the police to identify the perpetrators isn’t just negligence; it is an insult to the dignity of every woman in this state.”

Direct Appeal to the Chief Minister

Taking the fight to the highest level, Prasad has written an urgent letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, seeking his personal intervention. In the letter, she raised a chilling possibility: that the local police are either failing in their duty or deliberately withholding facts from higher authorities.

Her formal demands to the State Government include an immediate handover of the investigation to the CBI, transfer of the Hazaribagh SP and the suspension of the DSP and Bishnugarh Station In-charge besides re-establishment of the State Women’s Commission and full compensation and rehabilitation for the victim’s family.

Prasad, who is also a practicing lawyer, announced she would personally take charge of the legal battle. “My struggle continues until justice is delivered. As a lawyer, I will provide every possible assistance and fight this case in court myself,” she assured the victim’s grieving family.

As public anger mounts, the pressure now sits squarely on the state government to prove that its pledge to uphold the safety of women is more than just a campaign promise.
