Ranchi: The beats of the mandar are set to meet the flicker of the silver screen as Ranchi prepares to host the prestigious CMS VATAVARAN Travelling Film Festival and Forum. Starting tomorrow, February 12, the historic Audrey House will transform into a vibrant hub for environmental dialogue, indigenous wisdom, and cinematic excellence.
A Royal Green Opening
The two-day extravaganza (Feb 12–13) will be inaugurated by His Excellency, Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Governor of Jharkhand. Joining him are state environmental stalwarts including Shri Sanjeev Kumar (PCCF & HoFF) and Shri Ajay Kumar Rastogi (Chair, Task Force on Sustainable Just Transition).
Honouring the Guardians of the Soil
The heart of the opening ceremony lies in the Jharkhand Green Ambassador Awards, celebrating grassroots heroes who have spent lifetimes protecting the state’s ecological fabric.
Female Green Ambassador: Ms. Bitiya Murmu
Male Green Ambassador: Mr. Gulab Chandra Prajapati
From Global Lens to Local Realities
The festival, supported by Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, will screen over 15 curated films.
Opening Film: Humans in the Loop (Hindi & Kurukh), exploring the intersection of technology and tribal change.
Jharkhand Retrospective: A special segment dedicated to the state’s own cinematic heritage and environmental struggles.
Beyond the Screen: ‘VATAVARAN ki Choupal’
The festival isn’t just about watching; it’s about doing. The “Green Bridge” began earlier this week with an intensive workshop at TRI Ranchi, where 86 young filmmakers and journalists were trained in green storytelling.
The public can look forward to:
Live Tribal Painting & Storytelling: Celebrating the “Roots & Renewal” theme.
VATAVARAN ki Choupal: Interactive dialogue sessions with environmental leaders.
Nukkad Natak & Photo Exhibitions: Taking the message of conservation to the people through street theatre and art.
With partners like Akhra, ASAR, SAARTHI, and Usha Martin University, this IUCN #NatureForAll endorsed event promises to turn Ranchi into a beacon for planetary stewardship.
