Rama Khalkho to File Nomination for Ranchi Mayoral Race on February 3

RANCHI — Former Ranchi Mayor and current Jharkhand Women’s Congress President Rama Khalkho officially declared her candidacy for the upcoming Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) elections on Sunday. Addressing a press conference at her residence, Khalkho announced she will file her nomination papers on February 3 at 12:30 PM.

Seeking a Fresh Mandate

Khalkho, who served as Ranchi’s first woman mayor following the 2008 elections, stated that she is seeking the public’s “blessings and support” once again. She emphasized that her previous tenure was marked by honesty and dedication, and she hopes her experience will resonate with voters during the single-phase polling scheduled for February 23, 2026.

Core Campaign Priorities
If re-elected, Khalkho identified the following as her top priorities:

Administrative Reform: Strengthening the Ranchi Municipal Corporation to ensure transparent and effective governance.

Public Services: Providing improved civic amenities, including better waste management, sanitation, and street lighting.

City Development: Focused attention on hygiene (swachhta) and the resolution of fundamental infrastructure issues.

Political Backing
The announcement was made in the presence of several senior political figures, including Media Chairman Satish Paul Munjni, Metropolitan President Kumar Raja, and State OBC President Abhilash Sahu, signaling significant organizational support despite the elections being officially held on a non-party basis.

Election Context
The Jharkhand State Election Commission recently notified elections for 48 urban local bodies after a prolonged delay. While the nomination window remains open until February 4, Khalkho is among the first high-profile candidates to formalize her entry into the mayoral race.
