BAU celebrates 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram

Ranchi: The 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’ was celebrated in Ranchi based different colleges of Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) on Friday with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm.

Chief guest of the event organized at Ranchi Agricultural College, BAU Vice-Chancellor Dr SC Dubey outlined the historical importance of Vande Mataram in India’s freedom movement and said that the song continues to inspire generations to work with dedication, integrity, and love for the nation.

Highlighting the historical and emotional significance of the song Vande Mataram, Director Students’ Welfare Dr BK Agrawal said this is not merely a song; it is the soul of India — a call that ignited the flame of freedom in the hearts of millions. Composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in the 1870s and included in his celebrated novel Anandamath, the song became the mantra of self-rule, the symbol of patriotism, and the expression of devotion to Mother India. The song should reflect in our actions, discipline, and dedication, he stressed. The DSW exhorted the students to pledge to uphold the honor of the nation through conduct, hard work, and values.

Dr DK Shahi, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr PK Singh, Director of Research, faculty members, officers, and a large number of students attended the function, making it a memorable occasion.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dean Dr MK Gupta in Ranchi College of Veterinary Science, under the guidance of Associate Dean Prof DK Rusia in College of Agricultural Engineering and under the convenorship of University Cultural Coordinator Dr Arun Kr Tiwary in College of Forestry.

The celebration concluded with a collective rendition of Vande Mataram in all the colleges, filling the auditorium with patriotic zeal and emotion.
