CRPF SI Mandal sacrifices life fighting Maoism in Jharkhand forest

Ranchi: A CRPF sub inspector Sunil Kumar Mandal sacrificed his life fighting left wing extremism in the Saranda forest of Chaibasa in Jharkhand.

Mandal along with head constable Prath Pratim Dey, both associated with CRPF 193 Battlion, had become victim of IED blast in the forest. They were airlifted and brought to Raj Hospital in the Jharkhand capital, where Mandal succumbed to his injuries while Dey is under treatment.

It worth mentioning thaat a large number of Maoist commanders are active with their squads in the Saranda forest area. They have laid IEDs at various places, which explode as soon as one steps on them or as soon as slight pressure is applied. Many soldiers have lost their lives in these explosions so far.

Security forces are continuously conducting operations in this area. IEDs are being recovered almost every day. During this, many Naxal dumps were also demolished. Saranda forest is a Naxal-affected area. Naxal activities keep happening here.
