Agribusiness Incubation Centre of ICAR-IIAB Hosts 3-Day Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Dairy Farming

Ranchi: The Agri-Business Incubation Unit of ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (IIAB) organized an Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) on Dairy Farming, titled “Farm to Fortune: Exploring Entrepreneurship in Dairying”, from January 18 to January 20, 2025 at its Garkhatanga campus.

Over 25 participants, including engineers, environmentalists, dairymen, PhD holders attended the programme with five participants being women. The event focused on dairy farming entrepreneurship, covering topics like animal husbandry, milk processing, financial and marketing strategies, and sustainable practices. Participants benefited from the expert sessions delivered by in house faculties as well as representatives from the Jharkhand Milk Federation, Mother Dairy, KVK-Khunti, Birsa Agriculture University, Grameen Bank, etc.

Highlight of the programme was the practical visit to the Jharkhand Milk Federation’s Hotwar plant, where attendees gained hands-on insights into fodder production, compound feed manufacturing, mineral mixture production, quality control, and dairy plant operations. This exposure allowed participants to understand the practical aspects of dairy farming and milk processing.

The programme received positive feedback, with participants gaining valuable knowledge to pursue dairy farming as a business. It concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, encouraging attendees to explore dairy farming as a sustainable and profitable venture that contributes to the growth of rural economy.
