Ranchi: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) under the joint aegis of National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority, Ranchi and National Commission for Women and under the guidance of Judicial Commissioner-cum-Chairman, DALSA, District Legal Services Authority, Ranchi organized an awareness program “Vidhan se Samadhan” in Namkum Block, Ranchi.
While giving information about human trafficking, advocate mediator Manisha Rani said that when girls are lured and made victims of human trafficking, the police stations that have been set up to complain about it are called ‘Anti Human Trafficking Unit’, which is in Argora, Hatia and Chutia.
She gave detailed information on the laws related to trafficking. Focusing on witch-hunting, she said that calling anyone a witch comes under the category of crime, for which there is a provision of punishment and compensation.
LADCS Deputy Kavita Kumari Khati, in her address, told in detail about the laws related to women. She informed the people about witch-hunting, child trafficking and child marriage. She said that witch-hunting is a superstition, killing or torturing any woman by calling her a witch is a crime.
Focusing on child marriage, she said that parents should marry their daughters only after 18 years of age and pay attention to their education. While discussing child trafficking, she said that girls are lured and taken from Jharkhand to other states and forced into prostitution or forced to beg by making them beggars. Along with this, she also explained about labour laws in detail.
LADCS advocate Shivani Singh, focusing on the dowry system, said that both giving and taking dowry are crimes by law. If a person demands dowry from someone, and the other agrees to give dowry, then both are crimes according to law.
There is a law for the dowry system. There is a provision of 6 months to 2 years of punishment for demanding dowry. There is a 5 year jail term and a fine of Rs. 15,000 for taking dowry. She said that the above law is applicable on those who give dowry. Women are harassed because of dowry. Women are beaten and even killed. Regarding the law made on molestation of women, it was told that if any attempt is made to violate the dignity of a woman, then it is a legal offense, for which there is a provision of punishment up to five years and fine.
Addressing the awareness programme, CDPO, Savita Singh said that women are no less than anyone now. They are flying the flag in every field by standing shoulder to shoulder with men. By organizing such awareness programs with the cooperation of District Legal Services Authority, Ranchi, emphasis has been given on women empowerment and their development in the past and will be given in future also. It will always be our endeavor to listen to the problems of women by establishing coordination with DLSA, Ranchi and provide them maximum benefits.
It is worth mentioning that, the case studies of National Commission for Women were discussed by the resource person of the panel, women were motivated and were told to always be alert and aware of the law. In the end, pamphlets and leaflets were also distributed among the people by PLV.
