Ranchi: An NGO Vikas Bharti, who won several awards for its contribution in tribal development, paid tribute to the great grandson of tribal inco Birsa Munda, Mangal Munda, at its centre in Vishunpur.
Vikas Bharti joint secretary Mahendra Bhagat informed this saying Mangal Munda was a good Chhau artist and he remained associated with Vikas Bharti chief Padmashri Ashok Bhagat for a long time.
“Vikas Bharti had offered a teaching job to Mangal’s father Sukhram Munda. Mangal remained associated with Vikas Bharti for many years. His uncle, Budhram Munda, who is not a constable in Jharkhand Police, also remained associated with our organisation. Mangal was a good Chhau artist.” Vikas Bharti joint secretary Mahendra Bhagart said informing about the programme organised to pay homage to Mangal Munda.
Asked how descendants of tribal icon Birsa Munda came in contact of Vikas Bharti, Mahendra Bhagat said: “In 1997 a history professor of Doranda College, Purushottam Kumar, gave clue of Birsa Munda’s descendants and then Vikas Bharti took initiative to bring his descendants to Vishunpur.”
Mangal Munda died at RIMS on Friday. He was undergoing treatment since November 26 a day after he sustained head injury in a road accident at Khunti.
