Ranchi: For 38 girls and boys who were yet to be exposed to reputed educational institutions, were enlightened as they spent four hours on the campus of prestigious autonomous St Xaviers College today. A day- long educational visit was jointly organised by social outfit Pankhuri and St Xaviers College for underprivileged girls and boys of Government Middle School. As soon as they entered the campus their joy was beyond imagination as they started moving to the auditorium where they sat and experienced the audience.
All smartly dressed in school uniform, these students who never tasted the feel of education moved to college hostel, play ground, library, gymnasium, sports zone with great enthusiasm. ” Sir, can we study in this college after our school as I want to be an IAS officer . My father who is a daily wage labourer can’t afford, ” quipped Dharmika Kumari, an eight grader with glint in her eyes. Another eight grader Ashish Oraon requested Prof BK Sinha HOD of Political Science department can he carry his preparations for IAS in his college library after completing his graduation from this college to which Sinha replied, ” Why not all of you are free to join our college after completing your std 10, ” .
This educational visit which exposed students to different lifestyles broadened the understanding of every aspect of college as students got first hand exposure to explain what was not possible during the normal classes. However after a four hour tour of the college students were taken to the new cafeteria where they were given cakes, then all moved to the college old canteen for delicious lunch followed by distribution of fruits and sweets.
This programme was made successful by Father Nabor Lakra, principal of St Xavier’s Collegewho took feedback from the underprivileged students and requested them to complete their education. Present on the occasion were Manas Sahay, Vice President of DARAAD ENGICON PRIVATE LIMITED, Chairperson of Pankhuri Arti Sahuliyar, Treasurer Hazel Davis, Vice President Nehar K Das, well known artist Deepankar Ghosh, principal of Govt middle school at Karamtoli Bariatu Sufia Khatoon and Sangeeta Singh.
