Two special branch officials followed Champai in Delhi, police detains and releases them

Ranchi:Two officers of Jharkhand Police special branch apprehended allegedly for secretly following former Jharkhand chief minister  Champai Soren during his Delhi visit.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed this while talking to a news agency in the morning.

He mentioned that Champai Soren had visited Delhi a week ago and stayed there for three days. He travelled to Delhi again on August 26 via Kolkata. On both occasions, he stayed at a hotel with his team.

“Two Jharkhand police officers followed Champai Soren both times. They were caught by people yesterday evening (August 27) and handed over to the Delhi Police,” he claimed.

He further claimed that the officers admitted before the Delhi Police that they were following Champai Soren in Delhi on the instructions of Prabhat Kumar, the ADG IG in charge of the Special Branch. Himanta also mentioned that Champai Soren has filed an FIR in this matter.

A press release issued by police headquarter in the matter confirmed apprehension of the police officiers but said it was due to confusion.

“Traditionally, special branch team in Delhi and other states, has been collecting intelligence directly and indirectly on political, economic, social and other important issues related to Jharkhand.
The team of Special Branch Jharkhand, Ranchi also contributes in providing security to the dignitaries covered under security category. In the news received from various media/social media and other sources related to the detention of two sub-inspector level officers of Jharkhand Police in Delhi, both police sub-inspectors were spotted due to misunderstanding while performing their duty. In this regard, news is being spread through certain mediums that a particular person is being monitored, whereas in reality the said police officers were deputed there for security arrangements. In this regard, information and all information has been made available to all concerned investigating institutions (agencies). After the situation became clear, the officials were dismissed. Therefore, it is wrong for the Special Branch Aakhanya team to spy on any particular person. Let it be known that Shri Champai Soren has been a former Chief Minister and the current minister of Jharkhand Government is covered under security category. Police officers of the special branch were discharging their responsibilities there.
