Court awards 10 years imprisonment to drug smuggler

 

Ranchi: Chief Judicial Commissioner cum Special Judge (NDPS) Diwakar Pandey awarded 10 year imprisonment to Dukhaharan Sahu after finding him guilty in the drug smuggling case. He also imposed a fine of Rs 2.20 lakh. In case of non-payment of fine provided an additional imprisonment of two years.

The convict is a resident of Choreya village under Chanho police station area. There was another accused in the case, Sabir Ansari. The court let off of him due to lack of sufficient evidence.

Chanho police raided on 11 March 2023 and recovered 2 kg marijuana, 40 pieces of cough syrup and 14 bottles of illegal English liquor from the accused. The then station in-charge of Chanho, Ranjay Kumar, had lodged an FIR in this matter.

During the hearing in the case, public prosecutor Anil Kumar Singh had presented 7 witnesses before the court.
The court while pronoucing the observed that drug smuggling is having an adverse effect on the society. This is spoiling the future of the youth. Punishing such accused would be in the interest of justice. Advocate SP Agarwal was defence lawyer in this case.
