Ranchi: Miscreants, who reached in a car bearing JMM flag, assaulted family members of a journalist associated with a Hindi daily Khabar Mantra, Sheikh Mazbool, on Sunday night at Hurhuri under Ratu police station area in the outskirt of Jharkhand capital.
A Hurhuri village resident informed this saying Mazbool’s wife wife Ajeeda Begum’s left leg got fractured while his two daughters, Shabana Parveen and Rozi Parveen, and two sons Tanveer and Monajir Hasan, sustained internal injuries.
“Number of assailants were nine including car driver,” the resident said.
Officer-in-charge of Ratu police station Shashi Bhusan Choudhary confirmed the incident. “An FIR has been registered in this connection. No one has been arrested. It is fight between two neighbours.”
Mazbool explained how the incident took place.
“My family members run a shop named Rozi Shringar Store in one of the rooms of the house. Biscuits, cold drinks, mineral water and other small items are also sold there . On Sunday afternoon, Rozi was in the shop. Neighbour late Lalaku Khan’s son came there and stole money from the cash box and started running away. On hearing Rozi’s screams, Monajir ran and caught the child. His mother was called and informed about the incident. She scolded the child and took him with her and gave false information to her parents that the child was beaten up on the charge of theft. Enraged by this, the people attacked my family. They vandalized the shop and looted the gold chain from Monajir’s neck,” he said.
Various political and social organizations have condemned the deadly attack on the family members of journalist.
A police official said: “Primary investigation suggested that the assailants had come from Itki and Mandar in a car bearing registration number JH 01 FA 1337 and vandalized the shop. On Monday morning, the police took one of the accused in the attack into custody and started interrogation. A car was also seized but was later released.”
