Ranchi Sadar Hospital for the first time successfully operates on colon cancer under Ayushman Yojana

 

Ranchi: For the first time in Ranchi Sadar Hospital, a successful operation of colon cancer (APR- Abdominal Perineal Resection) was done absolutely “free” under the “Ayushman Yojana”.

A Sadar Hospital insider informed this saying “if this operation had been done in any private hospitals, the entire treatment cost would have been more than 5 lakhs but in Sadar Hospital it was done free of cost.”

” The team which made this possible include Cancer surgeon Dr. Prakash Bhagat, Laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Ajit Kumar, Anesthetist Dr. Jaywant Murmu, OT assistant sister Sarita, Poonam, OT assistant Sushil besides hospital staffs Mukesh, Lakhan, Madhav Bandho, Rashmi Bada, Asha Tikka, Sandeep and Nishant, Tanveer. During the entire treatment, Sadar Hospital administration, Pathology department and Civil Surgeon extended wholehearted supported to create a history,” the insider said.

Laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Ajit Kumar, who was part of operation team, confirmed the achievement and shared how this could be possible.

“35-year-old woman “Mrs. Pinky Devi” who is a resident of Chatakpur, Ranchi, came to the surgery department in November 2023 on suspicion of piles. She complained of bleeding and pain from the stool. On suspicion, we got her colonoscopy and biopsy done by Dr. Jayant Ghosh Sir in Sadar Hospital, Ranchi,” Dr Ajit said.

 

Dr Ajit further said: “The biopsy report revealed cancer (AdenoCarcinoma)After that the patient was referred to Dr. Prakash Bhagat Sir of the Cancer Surgery Department, he conducted a complete examination, in which it was found that the cancer of the colon had reached two and a half to three centimeters close to the mouth of the anus. Then he was given four cycles of chemotherapy, at an interval of two weeks each. After that radiotherapy was also given. The operation could be done after 2 months of radiotherapy, so her operation was successfully done in the last week of May. In this operation, a large part of the large intestine had to be removed, and her excretory passage had to be made through the stomach (COLOSTOMY). The patient is now eating and drinking, and her stoma is working. This operation and chemotherapy was done absolutely free of cost under Ayushman Yojana.”
