JAMUA (GIRIDIH): Tension is brewing in the Pobi Panchayat of Jamua block following allegations of widespread irregularities in the selection of a ‘Sevika’ (worker) for the Pobi South Anganwadi Centre. Local residents, led by Champa Kumari, have formally lodged a protest with the Circle Officer (CO)-cum-CDPO, demanding that the current selection be scrapped immediately.
In a written complaint—copies of which were also dispatched to the Giridih District Commissioner and the District Social Welfare Department—the villagers claimed the selection process lacked transparency and ignored the merits of eligible local candidates. They argue that the current outcome undermines the welfare of the women and children the centre is meant to serve.Key
The residents demanded immediate cancellation of the recent selection/election process and A fresh, door-to-door survey of the entire Pobi South area to ensure an accurate voter and beneficiary list besides announcement of a new date for a fair and transparent election conducted under official supervision.
“We want a system that is fair to everyone. The current process was flawed, and we will continue to fight until justice is done for the eligible women of our village,” said a local resident.
Responding to the uproar, the Jamua CO-cum-CDPO has reportedly acknowledged the complaint and ordered an official inquiry into the matter. “The allegations are being looked into. A final decision regarding a re-election or survey will be taken based on the findings of the investigation,” an official source stated.
The situation remains a focal point for social welfare advocates in the district, as the community awaits a written assurance of a neutral probe.
